Tape library |
The customer was looking to relocate the two operations close to
Central London and decided to combine them within a warehouse just
south of the River Thames. Given the height of the unit a mezzanine
floor was proposed to house the tape library on the upper level
and the engineering workshop at ground level.
To provide the tape storage capacity required whilst occupying
the minimum floor space an installation of Dexion’s “Bruynzeel
Compactus” mobile shelving was planned. The potential load
required the mezzanine floor to be designed to a higher load capacity
than normal, whilst the activities at ground level (vehicle access,
workbenching etc) meant that the mezzanine floor column spacing
was wider than usual.
To meet Building Regulations and to obtain the Fire Officer’s
approval the mezzanine structure had to have one-hour fire protection
so a suspended ceiling including lighting with fire / smoke hoods
was installed, and the columns and exposed edges of the mezzanine
were clad.
The mobile shelving tracks are laid onto the mezzanine floor surface,
and infill decking and an aluminium ramped edge are fitted.
To maintain a suitable environment for the tape storage the “Apton”
demountable steel stud partitioning was installed to the upper level
of the mezzanine.
The customer needed to minimise the period between taking over
the building and having the operations up-and-running. The mezzanine
floor was installed within one week and then our works above and
below were run concurrently. The installation was completed on time
and on budget.
