Warehouse reorganisation for Brakes Bros
in North West London |
In
late 2003 we were approached by wholesales food distributor, Brakes
Bros to help plan and implement a major warehouse reorganisation
in North West London. They had previously taken over a rival operation
and had inherited a warehouse larger than their own one nearby.
The plan was to refurbish the newly acquired premises and move their
operation in over a number of phases.
Penwright Supply assisted with planning the new facility, using
CAD drawings and plenty of experience in Dexion products. The warehouse
already had a substantial installation comprising a four tier pallet
racking and mezzanine structure constructed entirely from Dexion
Mark 3 pallet racking. The challenge for the Penwright team was
to dismantle the existing structure and using these components plus
whatever new components were required, we installed conventional
racking in three separate areas, including a Chiller and Freezer
area.
In
addition, protective barrier rail was supplied to protect freezer
walls and pedestrian walkways. Damaged pallet safety gates were
also returned to full working order and all surplus materials, several
tons worth, were efficiently removed from site.
The whole process involved six men for continuous period of twelve
weeks and we had to work hand in hand with the clients Health and
Safety Officer. Crucial hand over deadlines were met and the whole
project was delivered to the client a week earlier than the plan.
From
a financial perspective, we also ensured that our original estimates
did not over-run and in the main this was due to exhaustive planning
and hands-on site management. The crew of fitters were extremely
experienced in erecting Dexion Speedlock and this added to the smooth
running of the project.
The operation also demonstates the durability and adaptability
of Dexion products. Dexion Speedlock has been on the market for
more than forty years and is still one of the best and most easily
adaptable racking systems. The fact that we were able to reuse such
a lot of existing material saved the client many thousands of pounds. |
